Ancient Roman Shipwreck Believed More Than 2,000 Years Old Discovered Off Sicily Coast The discovery of a Roman shipwreck off the coast of Sicily has sent shockwaves through the archaeological community.

Estimated to be around 70ft long and 20ft wide, the wreckage was discovered some 150ft under the surface by specialist divers who had been tipped off by local fishermen.

Among the well preserved cargo were hundreds of ceramic jars, known as 'Dressel 1A' amphorae, still intact and filled with wine, oil, and grain.
